A lot of money for ‘The Last Jedi’ prequel trilogy
New York Times bestselling author Luke Skywalker and his wife Princess Leia Organa have donated $2 million to the production of a new prequel film titled “The Last Dragon,” the New York Post reports.
The announcement was made at a lavish premiere in London on Sunday night.
The two actresses, who co-star in the new film, announced the donation during a special reception.
“It’s been an honor to help the next generation of Star Wars creators reach for the stars,” the actress said.
“And it’s an honor for us to be able to do it together.”
The actress added that the donation will help “to make a big impact on this epic journey.”
The actress is joined in her new role as Leia by the actor Mark Hamill, whose last film was the 2013 hit Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens.
The actress has become a household name for her roles as Princess Leia in the Disney series and Han Solo in the Han Solo film series.
“I’m just so grateful to have had this chance to be a part of it, and it means a lot to me,” Hamill said at the ceremony.
“We’re so excited for what’s to come, and I think everyone will agree with me.”
Director J.J. Abrams and writer Rian Johnson are producing the film.
It will be written by Abrams, who previously worked on “Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Mission: Impossible: Rogue Nation,” “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed,” and “The Clone Wars.”
The film will be released by Disney on Dec. 15, 2019.
