Trump to use Trump International Hotel as Trump National Golf Course
The White House is poised to use Donald Trump International Golf Club as the White House’s new official golf course.
Trump, who has made the course a cornerstone of his presidency, is scheduled to open it on Sunday.
Trump’s son Eric Trump, president of the course’s parent company, will oversee its construction, and Ivanka Trump, Trump’s daughter, will lead the effort to sell the property.
Ivanka Trump said she hopes to sell it by the end of the year.
She said in a statement that the development is a “once-in-a-generation opportunity” and she is excited to be part of it.
“The Trump International is one of the premier private clubs in the world, featuring premium amenities, a variety of tournaments and courses that are designed to help players enjoy the outdoors,” she said.
“Our team is committed to building a sustainable and welcoming business that promotes and supports the local economy and the golf community in all its forms.”
Trump owns the course and has held multiple public meetings about its construction and its future.
His father, who is also a former president, has pledged to turn the property into a national landmark.
The Trump Organization has a contract to run the golf course through 2020, and Trump will play the course during that time.
Ivanka Trump and her husband Jared Kushner, who will be the president’s senior adviser, have been helping to negotiate the sale of the property and have been negotiating with several local officials about the course.
